Well tonight MMA history was made Former UFC Champion Chuck Liddell(left) taking on former Pride Champion Wanderlei Silva (right). It wasnt the main event but right from the weigh-ins we knew this fight was going to be war. While they may not have actually hated each other they still showed attitude towards each other as Wanderlei got up in chucks face and Chuck proceeded to flip Wandy the bird which resulted in security seperating them. Regardless Wandy looked in great shape and was ready to go. Chuck also definitly came to fight showing no backing down. Both came to the center of the ring had a respectful stare down and touched gloves and it was on. First round was more feeling out process, with some low kicks from Silva, while chuck was throwing some jabs and setting it up for the big right hand. Chuck threw several shots that landed solid and looked like they stunned Silva, but Silva recovered and came around to return the favor to Chuck. Round 2 was more of the same, although this time Chuck really started to land some solid shots sending Silva to the fence. While up against the fence Chuck threw some pretty good elbows with some solid punches added in. I think one of the elbows is what actually cut Wandy's eye pretty good. He was bleeding pretty steadily which had me a little worried the fight would be stopped early. After 3 rounds of war, Chuck Liddell ended up taking the win by unanimous decision. After it was all over, Wanderlei didnt seem to be himself in my opinion, not to take anything away from Chuck. Chuck earned the win by controlling the fight. Chuck throws a good straight punch while Wanderlei throws big looping punches. That being Silva's one downfall, but again Chuck won fair and square so now Wandy goes back to the drawing board to train harder and come back to fight again. As for Chuck we will see who the UFC puts him up against now.
The main event was George St. Pierre(left) vs Matt Hughes(right), which GSP controlled every aspect of this fight. From the striking to the ground control to, clinch control GSP was everywhere, even getting off a text book judo throw as well as landing several elbows while pinning Hughes up against the fence and holding dominant postion. In the 2nd round GSP executed a great hip throw which went into a reverse triangle, in which from that position he went for a kimura arm lock and transitioned into a straight arm bar in which the arm was so far stretched out that Matt Hughes coudnt even tap. He had to tap verbally in which we could see he looked at the ref saying "tap, tap, tap" Total domination by GSP. Next up GSP will fight Matt Serra for the Welterweight belt.
