Long Ride Home

Its about 3:55 am and well Im still up. I went out drinking with a few friends and had a good time. Im not the most social guy and usually end up in awkward situations because I usually dont know the hotest new trends or what all the cool kids are doing these days. Its not very often I run into people who can chat about action figures or Warhammer or video games...I'll make an exception there because now that video games are more "casual" now it seems to be more people are into gaming. Regardless of all of all that I still found myself sitting at a table with about 15 people who you could easily tell I was the odd man out...well my friend, his wife and I were the 5th wheels. It was a friends birthday party so to speak and well shes a "popular" person and she brought a whole ton of friends.

Long story short, this gal sits next to me and i'll admit she was pretty good looking. At first I almost felt bad for her because she somewhat drew the shortest straw and had to sit next to me. Everyones in there "dress to impress" outfits and im jeans and a Gears of War 3 shirt (fuck yeah!!) I tried so hard to carry conversation with her, but as I took myself out of the situation I realized how hard I was trying to bring up something interesting. The funny thing is I really could give a fuck about what any of those people care about or are into because it just wasnt my crowd. In the end me trying to stay interesting lasted about a good 5 to 10 mins total, I just didnt have anything to say, so ended up talking to the 2 people I did know and our conversation ranged from Dragon Age II into Cartoon Network's Adventure Time and Regular Show into a few random horror movies we had recently seen and if he had picked up any new figures.

Overall I actually had a great time because again, my anti-social self doesnt get out much so when I do get out of the house I usually enjoy myself regardless of how quiet I am. Plus once I get a few beers flowing thru me, I get a little more talkative, but at the same time a bit nerdier as well so it all cancels itself out. Once the crowd started leaving it was basically the final call to basically chat with the few people left or go ahead and call it a night...fuck it Im out!!!

So with that I got to enjoy a long drive home and be one with the darkness. Something I really enjoy about the cool calm nights that the day doesnt bring me. So there I was on highway 275 at 2:30 in the morning or so cruising along with my windows down doing about 65 and just taking in the night. I love seeing the flickering street lights over head as I pass each one. Again just very calming, something else that caught my eye was a giant red splatter that traveled for a while. I couldnt help but think in my mind of morbid thoughts that maybe some living being made a poor choice that night and didnt make it across. Whatever it was definetly had alot of red...or it could have been a painters truck who lost a can of red. I'll never know the true story there, but thats what ended my night.

As I entered the house my routine immediately kicked in...turn tv on, turn computer on, but tonight I felt like writing. Its currently 4:14 am and its about time to call it a night. I gotta get some rest so I can wake up and grind out another day.
