Stake Land - 2010

I heard about this movie from a few various sites and really didnt hear or read much good about it. The reviews all seemed to be mediocre at best. As usual, I dont really follow reviews I just like to get an idea of what people thought overall. So finally got this little ditty from Netflix and well what can I say, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this movie. A great film with a dash of the end of the world post apocalyptic style. Fun for the whole family if you ask me, but Im sure your not asking me...

Anyways yeah so basically as with most of these type of movies, civilization is pretty much fucked and there are pockets of survivors and small towns that are some what up and running and people still trying to survive by sticking together. Are you waiting for the twist...wait for it...wait for it...Vampires, yep not zombies, fucking good old nosferatu. Dont let the word vampires put a bad taste in your mouth, dont think of that Twillight type shit, think more along the lines of 30 Days of Night. These vamps looked more demon than anything else, which Im totally behind. Thats how I prefer my vampires.

Yeah so overall its not a classic style horror, more action themed than anything, but again the mix of action and vampire killing are good and the vampire plague is somewhat treated like a zombie outbreak. When you do see the vampires some are slow shamblers while others are the more agile powerful kind. This movie really remind me of  Zombie Land more than anything minus any kind of comedic value and well the zombies...shit the movies called Stake Land, I guess they didnt stray to far from there reference material. The movie basically follows 2 main characters with more coming and going thru out the movie, but really its focused on the young boy and the main guy known only as "Mister".  Mister is pretty much a bad ass vamp killing machine whose only goal is to kill as many vamps as possible.


The other small side plot is the religious zealots that believe the vampire plague is gods calling to cleanse the Earth of the sinners. At first I thought this was sort of dumb, but once you get their story, its pretty cool and works well with the movie. So now not only do you have to worry about vampires, but you also have to worry about the zealots.

So regardless of how shitty my reviews are give this movie a chance, good story with good action with a side of horror for good measure. At least rent the motherfucker if anything its worth a watch for sure.
